OK, if we are going to limit this to the 21st century, you still have to start with some of the best from the last century that are still going strong. That means honoring the great Roy Haynes, the last from the early bebop era, now that we have lost Max Roach this year. High on the list are Jack DeJohnette, Steve Gadd, Matt Wilson, Paul Wertico, Jeff "Tain" Watts, Brian Blade, Antonio Sanchez, Horacio "el Negro" Hernandez, Daphnis Prieto, and Bill Stewart. There are about 10 more I can think of off the top of my head, but that is a pretty good start, no?
