Silvano
Monasterios Power Trio
featuring
Mark Egan and Paul Wertico
On the South Florida
jazz scene there is no greater a piano talent than Silvano Monasterios.
Both as performer and composer he is unequalled. If ever there was an
artist worthy of greater recognition, it certainly is he.
Silvano was born in Caracas, Venezuela, trained at the José Angel Lamas
Conservatory, and began his professional career at the age of 18 already
having performed with some of the most prominent Venezuelan artists.
In 1989, he
participated in the Miami Jazz Festival where he received a “Best
Soloist Award.” In 1990, he returned to the United States on
scholarships first to Miami Dade Community College then the University
of Miami, from which he earned a Bachelor of Arts and subsequently a
Master’s degree in Jazz Piano and Pedagogy. DownBeat Magazine honored
Silvano as the winner of its “Best Jazz Instrumental Soloist
Award” in the Annual 28th (2005) Student Music Awards. A
particularly gifted composer, he also won in the category of “College
Original Song Outstanding Performance” for his composition “Avila.”
In 1998, Silvano was
voted “New Artist of the Year” at the “Hennessey Cognac Jazz Search” in
New York City. 1998 also marked the release of his first CD, Roads
Not Taken, which received outstanding reviews in the U.S. and Latin
America. In February 2006, his new recording entitled Fostered
was released and features all original compositions, including “Avila,”
mentioned above.
In addition to his own
groups, Silvano has performed with a number of important of
artists including Ira Sullivan, Othello Molineaux, Dave Liebman, Marc
Johnson, Donald Byrd, Paquito D’Rivera, Arturo Sandoval, Randy Brecker,
Sammy Figueroa, and Dee Dee Bridgewater.
For
this very special date Silvano will indeed
have a power trio consisting of New York-based electric bassist,
Mark
Egan, once a protégé of Jaco Pastorius. Mark has recorded on six
platinum and two gold records and has been nominated for four and
received two Grammys. He is a long time associate of the eclectic and
masterful drummer,
Paul Wertico from Chicago. Paul has seven Grammys to
his credit, mostly for his long tenure with guitarist Pat Metheny. Both
of these highly acclaimed players are
extremely versatile and very talented.
